Default Surround sound help

my new surround sound system for my pc works great for games, but when i play music the rear speakers dont put out any sound. Is this normal, or is something wrong? I would think they would at least put out stereo sound

yeah i figured it out, i guess most music is mono, so if you have a creative labs card you have to go to the eax console and enable 3d sound.
