Default Movie too large? Help!

ahh yes another dvd question from yours truly. So i recently "came into possession" of a particularly large .avi file, so large in fact that it does not fit on to a standard dvd. Is there any way that i can squeeze the file onto a standard 4.7gb dvd without reducing the quality?
